The Smithville ATA Karate for Kids school believes it is important to give back to our community. There are many ways we can participate, and help others to be more aware of their surroundings from a self defense perspective. We have participated in many local events that have helped our community. In all cases we have donated our time and resources for these events. These are a few of the ways the Smithville ATA Karate for Kids school is giving back to our community:
Taught a Self Defense class to the Smithville High School Starlettes & Cheerleader teams – Our Starlettes and Cheerleaders are involved in many activities in the evenings, after dark. We taught the teams ways to avoid putting themselves in a position to have to defend themselves. We also showed them practical self defense techniques if they ever had to protect themselves.
Self Defense for a Senior Citizens Group – We were invited to teach a self defense class to a group of Senior Citizens. We had a wonderful time discussing ways to prevent needing to use self defense, and techniques to use if presented with a self defense scenario
Self Defense for Girl Scout troops – We have taught self defense classes to multiple local Girl Scout troops. It is important that young girls know how to defend themselves. Our classes have shown the Girl Scouts multiple techniques to be used in the event they needed to defend themselves. Of course, our classes also stress the need to be aware of their surroundings, and not to put themselves in a situation that requires them to need self defense.
Hot Summer Nights – Self Defense demonstrations – Smithville hosts the Hot Summer Nights every Friday in August. We were invited to participate in their safety night. We gave hundreds of self defense demonstrations throughout the evening. The demonstrations included audience participation.
Smithville High School Pink Ribbon Football game – Board Breaking fund raiser – The Smithville ATA Karate for Kids school hosted a board breaking fund raiser to help raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness. For a small donation, we taught children and adults Taekwondo techniques, and then gave them a chance to use the techniques to break a board. Thank you to the Smithville School District for allowing us to participate in the Pink Ribbon Game event.
Larson’s 2nd Annual Cruisin’ for the Cause – Board Breaking fund raiser – The Smithville ATA Karate for Kids school hosted a board breaking fund raiser to help raise money for Larson’s 2nd Annual Cruisin’ for the Cause. The money raised is going to help a family with a sick child. Similar to the pink ribbon game, for a small donation, we taught children and adults Taekwondo techniques, and then gave them a chance to use the techniques to break a board.
